Stephenie Meyer Reflects On Life-Changing Experiences Since Penning "The Twilight Saga"

From blog.newsOK.com:

LOS ANGELES — In less than a decade, Stephenie Meyer has been transformed from a stay-at-home mom with a vivid dream-fueled idea for a novel to the creator of a full-fledged pop culture phenomenon.

Although her life has been drastically altered since she penned “The Twilight Saga,” Meyer, 37, remains the same storyteller who wrote the first novel in her vampire romance series in just three months after experiencing a particularly lucid dream about human heroine Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and her benevolent vampire sweetheart Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson)

“I don’t know that it has changed me as a storyteller, but it has given me fodder for it. It’s all just experiences that I’ve never had before, new things and different circumstances,” Meyer said at a recent press conference at the swanky Four Seasons Hotel.

“It’s hard to sum up something that doesn’t feel finished yet. I keep wondering when it will feel like the bow is there. It was a great growing experience. It wasn’t always a comfortable experience. I did learn a lot of it the hard way, but it was good for me in a lot of ways. When you are in your 30s you don’t think you’re going to learn (so much) because you’ve already jumped a lot of hurdles. I have a lot of new ones, but I’ve grown.”

Meyer surprised journalists earlier this month when she turned up at the press day for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1.” It marked her first appearance on the press circuit for the film adaptations since the 2008 interviews for the first installment. In the meantime, the first three movies based on her series — “Twilight,” “New Moon” and “Eclipse” — have bitten off more than $1.8 billion in worldwide grosses.

“I’ve been kind of hiding out for a few years. It’s interesting to be done and not done. We had the final night of shooting, but it keeps going. So with the second part of the movie (‘Breaking Dawn’ still) coming out, it doesn’t feel like an ending yet. … I’m not quite sure how it will be once we get to the end. I know there are a lot of people that I’m just going to miss seeing,” said Meyer, who had just come from Hollywood’s famed Chinese Theatre, where she watched “Twilight” stars Stewart, Pattinson and Taylor Lautner have their hand and footprints immortalized in cement.

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1,” the first half of the two-film finale based on the fourth and last novel in her supernaturally successful book series, opened in theaters Friday, with hordes of fervent fans known as “Twi-hards” flocking to their local cinemas for midnight screenings.

While she collaborated with filmmakers, especially screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, on the first three movie adaptations, Meyer signed on as a producer for “Breaking Dawn,” which was split into two parts but filmed concurrently.

“To take on these beloved books was quite intimidating, and I knew going in, I was going to satisfy half the people and the other half, well, you know, look on any website, and they want me butchered. But my objective always is if Stephenie likes it, if Stephenie believes it and approves of it, that’s my job. Because we’re all just visitors in her universe,” Rosenberg said, sitting with the author during the presser.

“The other thing was really fantastic was to discover … that “Stephenie is really a great collaborator and not precious.” she added. “I would be outlining something and working on something and I would call her or email her and we’d start bouncing around ideas that were not in the book. She was a great, great sounding board for me.”

As a producer on “Breaking Dawn,” the author was frequently on set to hear ideas, field questions and look at footage.

“(Having) Stephenie around was incredible,” said Bill Condon, who directed both “Breaking Dawn” films. “Any question you had about behavior or certainly back story, which any good actor relies on, she was there to help us out.”

Plus, Condon convinced the writer to make a cameo in one of the key scenes of “Breaking Dawn — Part 1”: When Bella and Edward get married, to the dismay of her werewolf best friend Jacob Black (Lautner). Filming the long-awaited nuptials was an emotional experience, but Meyer was prepared for the influx of feelings after becoming overwhelmed at Stewart’s dress fitting.

“Being at the wedding, it was cold, actually, and I did not want to be on camera. But Bill was like, ‘Oh come on, it’ll be great.’ He talked me into it and … it was fantastic to have the whole group there,” she said. “When Kristen actually came down the aisle the first time — and there were many times she came down the aisle that day — she looked at me for a minute and there was this look of, ‘It’s happening.’ It was like it was her wedding. It was very weird, but it was awesome.”

Academy Award-nominated writer-director Andrew Niccol is adapting Meyer’s lone non-“Twilight” title, “The Host,” into a movie starring Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan.

But the author is often asked if she plans to continue her “Twilight” saga, which will come to a close with the Nov. 16, 2012, theatrical debut of “Breaking Dawn — Part 2.”

“There was a time when I thought I would never stop writing about vampires. There are pieces of their stories written in my computer,” she said. “I’m not going to say no. Right now I don’t have much drive towards vampires; there is so much else going on. And sometimes you want to get to a new world. But the characters will always be alive for me, so who knows?”

Breaking Dawn Breaks Box-Office Records!

From MTV.com:

"Twilight" fans came out in force Friday and made sure "Breaking Dawn" broke records.

"The Twilight Saga" may be drawing to a close, but there's nothing close to a slowdown at the box office. Estimates put the Friday numbers for the second-to-last entry in the series at $138 million around the world, as "Breaking Dawn" rolled out in 54 global markets. The domestic box office received a welcome 11 percent boost from the same period last year, thanks to the legions of "Twilight" fans.

Midnight showings helped propel "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" past "The Dark Knight," "Transformers" and most of the "Potter" movies in the all-time opening-day box-office record books. "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" enjoyed the third-highest opening day ever with a projected $72 million in domestic receipts, according to studio estimates. The first part of Edward, Bella and Jacob's final chapter together didn't manage to beat the opening day of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" or 2009's "New Moon," but it was a close race between the "Twilight" films. "New Moon" opened with $72.7 million, and final calculations could change the outcome between the two.

"Twilight" fans who endured long lines for midnight showings accounted for $30.25 million of the "Breaking Dawn" first day-number. Based on the receipts thus far, industry watchers predict an opening weekend in the $140 million range, which is more than Summit Entertainment's conservative projections. That would give the latest "Twilight" the fifth-highest opening weekend ever behind "Deathly Hallows, Part 2," "The Dark Knight," "Spider-Man 3" and "New Moon." "Eclipse" opened with $68.5 million; the first "Twilight" debuted with $36 million.

Critics savaged director Bill Condon's first foray into Stephenie Meyer territory, but audiences have told a different story. "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" scored a paltry 27 percent on film review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences have given it a B+ CinemaScore. "Eclipse" and the first film remain tied as the best-reviewed in the series, with 49 percent each on the Tomatometer......

Reviews Are In - But What Do You Think???

From VancouverSun.com:

A dutiful action sequence breaks the adult vibe with some cartoonish animated battles with wolves. But when all is said and done, Twilight makes a necessary quantum leap forward, while managing to end on a suspenseful note that neatly sets us up for one more round. Speaking of which, fans are advised to stay in their seats for a mid-credit teaser of what’s in store for next time.

From CNN.com:

"Do not be afraid," Bella tells herself as she prepares to stride naked upon a moon-kissed Brazilian beach and consummate her marriage to Edward.

It's been her credo through four films now in the boffo "Twilight" saga, and for all the criticism that novelist Stephenie Meyer preaches good old-fashioned abstinence, it's worth pointing out that this gutsy heroine has a habit of making up her own mind and going after what she wants, even if (like everyone in her onscreen life) we can't bring ourselves to wholeheartedly approve of Bella's determination to wed and bed a vampire at the age of 18.

"Breaking Dawn -- Part 1" marks the beginning of the end for Bella (Kristen Stewart), Edward (Robert Pattinson) and his arch rival, local wereboy Jacob (Taylor Lautner). But fear not, the fat lady hasn't sung just yet, and there's still some life left in this domesticated gothic romance, even if you can feel it draining out before your eyes, drip by drip.

It's a rare series that improves the longer it goes on. "Breaking Dawn" is too padded to compete with last year's "Eclipse," but on the other hand, the production values have gone up each time, the actors have grown more comfortable in their roles (yes, even Lautner) and with each new film comes a new, more accomplished director.

Bill Condon, taking over from David Slade, was a surprising choice for the job -- he's best known for A-list fare like "Dreamgirls," "Kinsey" and producing the Hugh Jackman Oscar telecast a couple of years ago -- until you remember his breakthrough film, "Gods and Monsters" (with Ian McKellen as "Frankenstein" director James Whale), and before that a long apprenticeship in pulp schlock.

Condon immediately makes himself at home, throwing in a sneaky tribute to "The Bride of Frankenstein" and milking the wedding sequence as if he means to outdo William and Kate. (More trees!) It's not all about the extravagance though: The cross-cutting as the couple exchange their vows is a lovely, simple touch that crystallizes the emotion of the moment.

Then Condon reverts to "Lifestyles of the Rich and Fatuous," with a ridiculously ostentatious and overlong honeymoon getaway.

Unlike Mrs. Frankenstein, Bella isn't freaked by her monstrous other half. But the long-delayed and much-anticipated love scene does have a nasty sting in the tail: In Meyer's world, it seems that sex isn't safe even within the bonds of marriage. It's not the act itself ("Awesome" -- despite the bruising and considerable property damage) but the after-effects, which I suspect most everyone knows by now include the prospects of a little bloodsucker running amok.

Having split the last book into two, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg struggles to parse enough plot to keep this episode on the boil -- or even simmering. The aggressive threats from Washington's wolf pack ring hollow, a lame attempt to inject macho excitement into the movie's self-inflicted prolonged pregnant pause.

A doggy powwow is easily the movie's biggest unintentional howler. But mostly, Condon ladles on the atmosphere effectively enough with the now-customary indie-pop soundtrack (Iron and Wine; Sister Rosetta; Mia Maestro) so up front we're only a whisker away from a full-on musical.

And he delivers the grotesquely bloody finale with something approaching operatic gusto. We've come a long way since dads could escape labor pains by putting the kettle on and pacing outside in the hallway; this scene could send birth rates plummeting.

Critics will scoff, and this isn't a very good movie, but it's been a while since I saw anything so deliciously delirious......

We see the reviews from the "critics," but what do you think? Was it everything you hoped it would be? Did it disappoint? Was it true to the book?

Breaking Dawn Hollywood Premiere TONIGHT!

From LA Times Blogs:

One big difference between the "Breaking Dawn" premiere campers, and the folks farther northeast downtown at Occupy L.A.? The Twi-hards have a clear set of demands: "Twilight," "Twilight" and more "Twilight" -- and if you would cap that with a little Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner on the red carpet before "Breaking Dawn -- Part 1" premieres at the Nokia Theatre, everyone would go home happy.

The "Breaking Dawn" fans, who've been camped in tents gathered under a larger tent at L.A. Live since Wednesday, got some extra entertainment Sunday morning: Supporting cast members, including Cullen family patriarch Peter Facinelli, werewolves Jackson Rathbone and BooBoo Stewart and Volturi vixens Casey LaBow and MyAnna Buring showed up for a breakfast-time autograph session and photo fest ahead of Monday's big event.

The "big three" stars will hit the scene Monday evening.

Twilight saga author Stephenie Meyer also showed ahead of the red carpet for the first time, handing out 600 pre-autographed copies of "Breaking Dawn" and delighting fans, some of whom thanked her for friendships that had resulted because of her books.

"They're really kind to each other, which I love, and all very excited," Meyer said in a video interview Sunday, "and looking pretty good for having slept on the street."

The Ministry of Gossip will have the premiere's official live-streaming video from the red carpet starting at 5 p.m. PST -- so either bookmark this post or come back to the Ministry later to see KStew, RPattz, Taylor and more from the red carpet in Los Angeles. - Click here to view live stream

There's a premiere in London's Stratford district Wednesday, and the movie hits U.S. theaters Friday.

Per Kristen, Breaking Dawn Sex Scene Is 'All Close-Ups'

From MTV.com:

There is so much hype surrounding the "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" sex scene between Edward Cullen and Bella Swan that we probably won't ever be able to stop writing about it. The fans demand it!

Lucky for us, the stars in question keep talking about it as well, so we're all able to revel in the warm romantic (after?) glow for a little while longer. When MTV News caught up with Kristen Stewart recently, we asked what her reaction was when she finally saw the intense scene play out on the big screen.

"I think, for me, it really reflects what I felt when I was reading the book," Stewart said. "It's funny, because it's not in the book. It's totally just what you imagine in between those chapters, but without it, because you imagine it, it leads you to — it picks up right after, and then sort of really indulges in memory. And so I think that's how you see it. It's not a beginning-to-end sex scene; it's memories, it's nice. So because of that, I never really got to shoot, we didn't shoot a sex scene; it was all close-ups and such."

Stewart's steamy scene partner Robert Pattinson had a little more fun talking about the filming of their scene, in that he was happy to fulfill fans' sexual fantasies with his acting.

"That's the one time where I have felt kind of like the coolest person," Pattinson said of filming the scene. "[I thought] this is easy! I can fulfill people's sexual fantasy expectations without even thinking about it, piece of cake. That isn't acting," he joked.

"The only thing [that was difficult] is the vanity aspect," Pattinson continued. "Taylor [Lautner] just ruined the whole series for me. As soon as he buffed up, I went, 'Well, I'm throwing in the towel' on 'New Moon.' "

Taylor Forced To Eat While Shooting Breaking Dawn

From USMagazine:

Taylor Lautner famously beefed up to play werewolf Jacob Black in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Since the 2009 film, the 19-year-old actor has maintained his buff bod -- much to the chagrin of those around him.

"I had people bringing me food and shoving it in my face, saying 'Eat, Taylor!' They sort of had to force me," Lautner tells Parade of shooting The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1. "Then I had to get my butt in the gym, and that's difficult because we were filming 12- to 15-hour days."

"I can definitely say that after my last shirtless scene, as soon as I wrapped, it was a huge celebration," the actor says. "I went out and had desert for the first time in a while, and I took few days off of the gym." Lautner -- who dumped girlfriend Lily Collins in September -- adds that he isn't worried about losing his fit physique now that filming is over.

"I've pretty much always been a pretty healthy eater and I don't pig out. If I occasionally want ice cream or something, I can have it," he tells Parade. "I've always been really active. I grew up playing sports, so I'm always shooting hoops or throwing the football with my friends. I'm super-active in that sense."

Kristen: I'm Shy, Not Cold and Distant

From IndianExpress.com:

'Twilight' actress Kristen Stewart insists she is not distant and cold but struggles to talk about herself as she still has a lot to learn.

The 21-year-old actress -- who is best known for playing Bella Swan in the 'Twilight Saga' film franchise -- thinks she is often unfairly portrayed as distant and cold but believes she has that image because she finds out hard to talk about herself, reported InStyle magazine.

"I'm sometimes told I am a very distant and cold person. In real life, I'm very shy. I feel uncomfortable during interviews because I need to talk about myself. But to talk about yourself, you have to know who you are. When it comes to that, I think there are still a lot of things I need to discover about myself," Stewart said.

The actress, who is in a relationship with Robert Pattinson, also insisted she is exactly the same as everyone else and despite being famous, she shares the same life aspirations as her fans. "Being a celebrity is not really something that bothers me, it's the way it's talked about and how actors are perceived by others. People are convinced that just because we're known, our aspirations are different from theirs. But if they only knew... Our only ambition is to have friends, a good life and interesting projects. Just like everybody," Stewart added.

Nikki's Gown at Breaking Dawn Event

From OnTheRedCarpet.com:

Nikki Reed wore a white, Maria Lucia Hohan gown with a plunging neckline and open back to a red carpet premiere of her new film, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1," at the 2011 Rome International Film Festival in Rome over the weekend.

One of the 23-year-old actress' tattoos, made up of Russian text and located near her right armpit, was visible through flesh-colored mesh that adorned her back and sides. Reed, who plays Rosalie Hale in the movie, was joined at the event by Jackson Rathbone, who portrays her on-screen adopted brother, Jasper Hale.

Their characters are the siblings of Edward Cullen, played by male lead Robert Pattinson. The actors are promoting the movie, the latest sequel in the hit vampire series, around the world before its November release.

The red carpet event took place about two weeks after the Reed, who plays vampire Rosalie Hale, married "American Idol" finalist Paul McDonald. The two met at a film premiere in March of this year and wed in California on October 16.

Robert, Kristen & Taylor "Imprint" on Hollywood

From ETOnline:

"Twilight Saga" stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner left their "imprint" on Hollywood Thursday when they stamped their hands and feet in the cement at Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

The ceremony, hosted by late night host Jimmy Kimmel, began with a few words from all three of the actors. Stewart gushed, "I think this is the coolest thing I've ever done in my life." Lautner thanked them for their "unreal" support. Pattinson acknowledged fans as well, marveling both at the overwhelming support and the success of the franchise: "how young we are -- it's kind of ridiculous and amazing at the same time." He then jokingly invited the hundreds gathered there to come up and add their hand and foot prints in the concrete.

Hordes of hardcore "twi-hards" had started camping out Wednesday night for a chance to meet stars, including fans from across the country and around the globe. By the time the ceremony began, there were approximately 700-800 waiting to catch a glimpse of their favorite actors, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The actors join the ranks of just 250 Hollywood elite, notes KTLA, and that includes actors like Marilyn Monroe and Brad Pitt.

In order to accomodate the ceremony, Los Angeles police had shut down a swath of Hollywood Boulevard from the Hollywood/Highland metro station to Orange Drive for three hours.

Breaking Dawn TV Spots

From Reelz.com:

There's only two weeks left until vampires and werewolves take over movie theaters all over the country, and Summit Entertainment isn't about to let that fact slip from people's minds. Three new TV spots have arrived online for the fourth movie in the Twilight franchise, Breaking Dawn Part 1, and between them, they've got all the bases covered.

The first focuses on love and romance: Jacob (Taylor Lautner) and Bella (Kristen Stewart), the wedding, the honeymoon, and even Charlie's (Billy Burke) love for his daughter. It's very sweet and it is sure to get that new Christina Perri song stuck in your head yet again.

The second spot steps away from the romance and focuses instead on the action in this chapter of the Twilight Saga. Wolves, street parties, vampire attacks, skinny dipping, it's got it all. Maybe the fellas won't mind going to see this particular supernatural romance after all.

The last spot focuses on the baby, including creepy drawings of half-vampire fetuses that Edward (Robert Pattinson) finds, and it also hints at the gore that cast members promised at this year's Comic-Con. One thing's for sure, that last shot of Kristen Stewart is definitely scary.

Breaking Dawn Director Explains Revisiting Twilight Ballad

From MTV.com:

Fans of the original "Twilight" soundtrack got a pleasant surprise when the recently released track list for "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" revealed that Iron & Wine's melancholy ballad "Flightless Bird, American Mouth (Wedding Version)" was among the cuts.

Twilighters — who are no doubt gearing up for Thursday's "MTV First" with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner at 7:56 p.m. on MTV and MTV.com — will recall that the song made its "Saga" debut in the closing moments of "Twilight" as Bella and Edward shared their first dance. And according to "Breaking Dawn" director Bill Condon, the retread of this memorable number was an important reference for him to make.

"I always thought of this movie as the bookend to the first movie, and that was such a great powerful, romantic song for those characters," he told MTV News during a phone interview last week. "It just felt right to kind of refer back to it at this important, important moment," he added about "Breaking Dawn - Part 1," the first of the two-part finale.

Of course, Condon wouldn't reveal exactly which important moment this song will accompany in the November 18 film, leaving fans to wonder whether its delicate strains will find their way into the wedding itself or perhaps Mr. and Mrs. Cullen's first dance as man and wife.

Condon did divulge, however, that the song is just one of many callbacks to earlier "Twilight Saga" films.

"[There are] quite a few," he confirmed. "Musically, I would say at the wedding there's a jazz quartet that plays a couple of tracks from 'Eclipse.' Carter Burwell has come back to do the score. He did the first movie, so 'Bella's Lullaby' features in this movie too."

Moral of the story: Keep your eyes and ears peeled for touching tributes to "Breaking Dawn" predecessors.

Be sure to tune in to "MTV First: Breaking Dawn - Part 1," which kicks off Thursday, November 3, on MTV at 7:56 p.m. ET, followed by a Q&A with Kristen, Rob and Taylor on MTV.com!
