Maggie Grace as Irina!

From Deadline.com:

EXCLUSIVE: Maggie Grace will play a new vampire threat to Kristen Stewart's Bella in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Grace, who played Liam Neeson's in-distress daughter in Taken, will play the role of Irina in the final installments of the Stephenie Meyer novel, which director Bill Condon is directing in two separate films.

Irina is a member of the Denali coven, considered cousins to the Cullen clan as the only other "vegetarian" vampire group. When Irina blames the Cullens for the death of her lover, her actions set in motion a terrifying chain of events. The first of two pictures will be released by Summit Entertainment on November 18, 2011, followed by the finale on November 16, 2012. Melissa Rosenberg is writing both scripts, and Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt and Meyer are producing. Grace just completed the Dwayne Johnson-starrer Faster for CBS Pictures and re-teamed with Taken producer Luc Besson in Lockout, the outer space saga that stars Guy Pearce as a wrongly convicted man offered his freedom if he can rescue the president's daughter (Grace) from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates. Grace is also waiting to reprise in Taken 2. She is repped by UTA and Global Creative.

Mackenzie Foy - Renesmee????

From Entertainment.gather.com:

One of the most sought-after roles in Hollywood -- Bella and Edward's half-human/half-vampire child Renesmee Cullen -- will be played by nine-year-old actress Mackenzie Foy in the two-part conclusion to the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn. The news comes one day after the underwhelming announcement that Maggie Grace (Lost) will play troublemaking vampire Irina.

Foy's credits to date include single episodes of FlashForward and 'Til Death, according to imdb.com. However, she's been a growing number of Twilight fans' favorite to play Renesmee for some time, with at least one online petition asking for her to be given the role.

According to EW.com, Foy is "inches away" from being announced as Renesmee, who rapidly ages from a newborn to a 17-year-old during the events of Breaking Dawn. Past reports have theorized that that aging process will be achieved via similar effects as those employed in David Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Countdown to Breaking Dawn

From The Sun:

ALL you Twi-hards can start your squealing.
Preparations for the next Twilight film, Breaking Dawn, have begun.

ASHLEY GREENE, who plays vampire Alice Cullen in the fang flicks, told her Twitter followers that she had paid a visit to the wardrobe department this week.

She wrote: "Had a Breaking Dawn fitting yesterday which means we are getting close to starting. I'm getting excited!!"

So are millions of twelve-year-olds.

The fourth chapter in the series, which will be split into two parts, will be shooting in Louisiana and Vancouver from November.

Breaking Dawn will not be filmed in 3D, despite reports that it would.

A source from Summit Entertainment, who make the Twilight movies, confirmed that "Neither film is being shown in 3-D."

The surprising decision will annoy star KRISTEN STEWART, who was all for going to the next dimension.

She said recently: "I'm probably speaking out of line or whatever, but I think it would be awesome."

Her sparkly fella is scary enough in 2D...

No 3D for Breaking Dawn

It seems Breaking Dawn is going to stay two-dimensional, and no, we're not talking about the writing or the characters. Summit Entertainment plans to shoot the film in 2D, not 3D, as the current stereoscopic craze would dictate.

“Neither film is being shot in 3D,” a rep from Summit told Gossip Cop, whose investigation into the matter was spurred by recently circulated rumors that the two-part sequel was going to be in 3D. Seeing as how Eclipse capitalized on the popularity of IMAX, the rumors have a strong basis in possibility.

I can hear the disappointment of the fans already... and who doesn't want to see Lautner's pecks or a graphic vampire birth literally jump off the screen? No, sorry Twi-hards, this time the beef and placenta stay where they should. Of course, that is not to say a post-conversion isn't an option...

What do you guys say? Bella and Edward in 3D or not? I mean, Harry Potter is doing it, right?

Twilight Fan Spends $60,100.00 To Visit Breaking Dawn Set

From ReelMovieNews.com:

Would you spend $60 grand to hang out with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart for a day on the set of Breaking Dawn? Well, somewhere out there, the ultimate Twilight fan would... and did!

The Vancouver Sun is reporting that one lucky, and apparently loaded, Twilight fan dropped $60,100.00 to win an eBay auction to spend a day on set with the young stars. The paper reports that the bidding was "frantic", with the highest offer jumping from $40,000 to just over $60,000 within just a few minutes of the close of the auction.

For those of you scratching your heads as to why someone would spend that much to satiate their Twilight hunger, don't worry; the proceeds from the auction will go to the Stand Up To Cancer charity.

Would you spend that much money just to share a day with your favorite two stars?

Lucy Hale - Could We See Her in Breaking Dawn???

From Examiner.com:

Yesterday, J-14 released an interview with Lucy Hale (from Pretty Little Liars and Privileged) in which she talked about the fact that she not only tried out for "Alice" in Twilight, but she also auditioned for "Jane" in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. "I auditioned for Alice . . . I read the books and I wanted to be part of the first movie so bad," she explained. Since Ashley Greene ultimately nabbed the role, she went back out for "Jane," but Dakota Fanning got that post. Still, she isn't bitter about it. "I love everyone they've cast," she mused, grateful for her current circumstances with being a popular television star.

Her attitude about the whole thing is rather refreshing (not to mention, she has a very Twilight-friendly name), so it begs the question as to whether Lucy Hale might be a good fit for one of the new parts coming up in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (Part 1 or Part 2).

Among the new female characters introduced in Breaking Dawn, the following spring to mind as a potential fit:

Carmen: She is "black-haired, with a hint of an olive tone to her chalky complexion," and she is one of the "Denali" coven members who appears in both the beginning and the end of Breaking Dawn. This would be a nice grab for any new Breaking Dawn cast mate, since the character has the (based on the book, of course) potential to appear in both films.

Chelsea: This tall, beautiful blond relationship reading-and-altering "Volturi" member strives to protect "Aro" (this suggestion factors in the potential for wig-usage, since we definitely know that's not uncommon with the Saga). She's powerful if not very prevalent, so it would be a fun part to portray for anyone.

Kebi: Since the assumption right now is that Rami Malek will portray "Benjamin" of the Egyptian Coven, it stands to reason that "Kebi" might make it into the film. She's described as, per Twilight Saga Wiki, "dark haired and olive skinned." This wouldn't likely be a speaking role, but it's a role nonetheless!

There are a couple of other possibilities for sure since Breaking Dawn introduces quite a few new ladies to the Twilight scene, but do you have any thoughts on Lucy Hale for any of these parts? Others? Why or why not?

MSNBC's Twilight Article - Is Twilight Altering Teen Minds?

The following is Twilight Lexicon's take on MSNBC's article about Twilight affecting teenagers' minds. What do you think????

From Twilight Lexicon:

MSNBC has an article up on Twilight and books in general affecting teenagers’ minds. We don’t do too much editorial around here, but today we’re going to.

Of course we have the old “Bella is a poor role model” rehashed again. Personally we love how they always forget that it’s Bella that goes to Italy to rescue Edward, and that Bella continuously tries to help in the ways any human can when dealing with supernaturally strong creatures (third wife blood trick). A human male would be just as powerless. Once she’s a vampire with the superpowers she competes with the guys (and girls for that matter) just fine.

Here’s part of the MSNBC article:

“Is Bella a good role model?
Attendees at the conference included experts in neuroscience, psychology, art, literature and music, as well as writers such as Meg Rosoff, author of “How I Live Now” and other teen titles.

While teens might be turning the pages of ” Twilight ” for the plot and romance, other takeaways from the books may be having a lasting impact, too.

The series follows Bella, a teenage girl who falls in love with a much older vampire named Edward. Some critics have argued that Bella’s passivity, and the story’s abstinence-until-marriage message, are anti-feminist.

“If you look very, very clearly at what kind of values the ‘Twilight’ books propagate, these are very conservative values that do not in any way endorse independent thinking or personal development or a woman’s position as an independent creature,” Nikolajeva said. “That’s quite depressing.”

One of our favorite criticisms is when articles talk about Bella cooking and doing laundry while living with Charlie, but she did that and more while living with Renee. So, it’s antifeminist with Charlie, but not with Renee? How does that work exactly? Bella is essentially the adult in her relationship with her mother and her father doesn’t keep tabs on her. It’s more a statement grownups not acting like grownups, but again it does mirror what goes on in society. How many adult do we know that don’t exactly know what their kids are doing?

The book series has women like Jane, Alice, and Leah who is would be hard to categorize as anything but independent and strong willed. It’s clear in the books that Leah, Sam, and Emily have had sex outside of marriage. So the book is a hidden treatise on subservience and abstinence how exactly?

Now does Bella always stand up to Edward and Jacob as firmly as many would like? No. But at the same time, do all of us stand up to people effectively? No. So maybe what’s eating at certain people and at the same time is why Bella is relatable to a lot of people is that as a whole most people are not uber good at standing up for themselves all the time. It’s a skill acquired over time. In our teens most of us aren’t really good at it, and a lot of us still aren’t great with it twenty years later.

So what are we saying? Maybe, just maybe, could folks put things in context and realize that things aren’t that black and white? Twilight is no more the best book ever written any more than it’s mind control going to warp an entire generation of girls. Taking lots of things out of context frankly makes the people doing that look stupid. The more sexualized vampire books/movies that are out there aren’t creating an undo influence either, and they too are wildly popular.

Some of the comments we liked on the MSNBC site we thought summed things up pretty well:

“No doubt, Noone can just have fun from a story any longer. We must analyze and pick it apart, conduct a study on it, discuss it, and then either applaud it or trash it. The majority of young people are stable, some are not. Some will carry out fantasy into their reality and potentially hurt others. Do we blame the story? no. I’m certainly going to discourage my daughters from having sex too early, but in the end, it’s their choice.”

” “Some critics have argued that Bella’s passivity, and the story’s abstinence-until-marriage message, are anti-feminist.”

______________________________________________________________________

Seriously? Now only the female in the relationship is allowed to assert values? Why is it anti-feminist for the male to stand up for what he believes in? Does feminism mean he is allowed NO rights whatsoever? And it’s apparently against the laws of literature for the main female character to have a passive personality. God forbid someone show some realism!! It’s not as if passive people don’t exist. Also, this idiot obviously didn’t read the series as I didn’t find Bella passive at all, more thoughtful and introverted. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the books, but at least I paid attention when I read them.”

_____________________________________________________________________

This one we thought was hilarious, because it shows how you can ridiculously take anything wildly out of contest to suit your point of view:

“Here look at it from the otherside for a minute the side of things only those of us truly comfortable with the “lifestyle” can openly speak about.

Bella is a Masochistic, dominatrix who wanted the ability to fully exert control over her subs.

1) Bella manipulates Edward, constantly taunting him, teasing him, and tempting him.

2) Bella Clings to the fact that she is Klutz and constantly puts herself into sticky situations.

3) Upon discovering the truth she fully manipulates Edward and his family, and tempts him further causing him great emotional strain.

4) Bella gets on a strangers motorcycle, jumps off a cliff and runs away to Europe

5)Bella is constantly manipulating Edward and others in an attempt to be changed.

6) She continues to play two men off eachother while giving both the illusion they will get a peice

7) She knows the baby will result in her death and subsequently obtaining the power she so desires.

OMG I just got all that from the same book you did and NONE of it involved bella being a sub. But it did kind of alude to how much of a subby little B**** that Edward and Jacob were.

Bella while not a great role model for teenagers is a role model for strong minded women everywhere….”

There are billions of us that read the books, understand it’s escapist fantasy, enjoyed the romance, are living our lives, and rolling our eyes at the “We have to save the children mentality”. Teens are no more completely forsaking all and emulating Bella anymore than they are practicing witchcraft due to Herminone, preparing for a post apocalyptic world with Katniss. Adults aren’t changing into Bella any more than they are Sookie.

New Twilight EBay Auction to Visit Breaking Dawn Set

From ZippyCart.com:

The Twilight Saga has been a pop culture phenomenon since the first book in the series came out in 2005, which was soon followed by the film adaptation of the book in 2008. The fantasy book series revolves around Bella Swan who moves from Phoenix, Arizona, to Forks, Washington, and winds up falling in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen. In 2009 the second Twilight movie debuted, and then this year the third Twilight movie premiered, but now fans will have to wait until November of 2011 for the next installment in the series called The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. November 2011 is when part one of the final movie will be released, and this will be followed by part 2 releasing in November 2012.

This week something unique was announced for the true Twilight fans (aka Twihards), which is a chance to travel to the Vancouver set in early 2011 to visit while the film is in production. However the only catch is that you have to be the winner of an eBay auction which is currently underway, where the proceeds will go to benefit non-profit organization, Stand Up to Cancer. E! Online was one of the first to announce the charity auction, which started with an opening bid of only $100. Since then there have been 62 bids, and the current auction bid stands at $9,600, with the next bidder needing to go to $9,700 to have a chance to visit the set of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. So if you are one of the biggest Twihards around and have an extra $10,000 to spend, you might consider taking a look at this auction. The auction does not end until September 17 however, so it is likely that the final winning bid will be well over $10,000.

Click here to place your bid :-)

Eclipse Hits Theaters in Wider Distribution Today!

From Twilight Lexicon:

Today Eclipse hits theatres in a wider distribution. It’s sort of a re-release since it’s hitting a broader area. Fandango is selling tickets to the re-release of Eclipse in celebration of Bella’s birthday! The link will help you find a theater near you, showtimes, and of course will let you order tickets!

As of Wednesday night, domestic sales of Eclipse are $298,859,646. That’s roughly 2 million more than the final domestic in theater sales of New Moon. As of right now Eclipse is the number four film of the year behind Toy Story 3, Alice In Wonderland, and Iron Man 2. It’s not very likely that Eclipse would overtake either of the top two this weekend. Toy Story 3 has earned over a whopping $400,000,000 and Alice in Wonderland has $334,191,110. On the other hand, Eclipse stands a decent chance at overtaking Iron Man 2 either by the end of this weekend or when it ends its in theater run some time in late November.

This re-release should solidify Eclipse as a top five film of the year putting it well ahead of Inception, currently in the number 5 position. The major challenge in the top five will come when the the first segment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows releases by the end of the year. Eclipse shouldn’t get knocked out of the top five, but it will be interesting to see what the final rankings will be.

We’re betting on the following: Toy Story, Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, Eclipse, Iron Man 2 being the final order. What do you think?

All box office data via Box Office Mojo.

Eclipse DVD Release Date Confirmed!

From MTV.co.uk:

Twilight Eclipse will be coming to DVD on the 6th December… just in time for Christmas.

The DVD edition of the film is set to come complete with three hours' worth of extra footage, including commentaries from Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

As well as an added dose of our favourite Twilight couple, the DVD will also include deleted and extended scenes, commentry by director David Slade and interviews with the cast members.

A six-part making of Eclipse documentary will also come with the DVD and for all those Taylor Lautner fans out there, it will also feature photo galleries of the topless hunk.

Other special features include an Edward Fast Forward and Jacob Fast Forward application and music videos from Muse and Metric.

For those Twihard's who are still yet to buy the previous two Twilight movies, a special triple-disc collection will also be available, containing all three vampire flicks in a limited edition souvenir steel case.

Breaking Dawn Already Making Waves in Louisiana

From Exminer.com:

The fact that production for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 is taking place partially in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is making big waves in the community.

A local news source did some poking around to find out details about production plans for the films, and they learned that the scenes being shot in Louisiana will indeed be indoors and that it is being considered very beneficial to the local economy.

"What you'll see is much like what 'Steel Magnolias' did for Natchitoches . . . People go to Natchitoches to this day to see the house in 'Steel Magnolias,'" reports WBRZ. Given the fact that Twilight fans are famed for traveling to Forks, La Push, Portland, Vancouver, and even to Italy to see the Twilight sights, this is probably at least a little true.

Specific details were, of course, unavailable, but the station's news clip shows a bit of what's being said around town about the production.

Dakota Fanning: Her Journey and Her Ultimate Dream

From EntertainmentandShowBiz.com:

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s co-star from Twilight saga Dakota Fanning walked into the corridors of Hollywood right when she was a child as she featured in ‘I Am Sam’ at the ripe age of 7.

Dakota may be riding high on her new found success with Twilight and The Runaways fetching her the attention a young actress needs, but she has her feet firmly on the ground and isn’t taking the fame for grounded.

She feels, “I know this is what I want to do for the rest of my life but I think that everything can end tomorrow. You have to live your life for the moment and not take it for granted. I don’t think you ever feel completely secure.”

Dakota is grateful for whatever she has achieved so far and that, too, at a bare age of 16. “I feel so lucky to have had some of the opportunities that I’ve had. I know some people aren’t that lucky, to be at the right place at the right time or do the right movie.”

However, her ultimate dream is to work with her idol Jodie Foster, the sensational and powerful actress. Here’s hoping that I would still be writing about Dakota 20 years down the line…. (ENSNN)

Kellan Lutz: Definitely Abs of Steel!!

From Celebuzz.com:

If Kellan Lutz is trying to kill his "beefcake" image, he might want to consider hiding that gorgeous chest of his under a shirt.

The Twilight hunk was spotted walking around sans shirt outside of his home in SoCal earlier this week. Enjoy this shirtless sight while you still can, since Kellan wants to start breaking away from his hunky, ab-flaunting reputation.

Twilight Saga at Scream Awards 2010!

From our friends over at Twilight Lexicon:

The Scream Awards by Spike TV have just announced their 2010 nominations. Last year Twilight took away 4 awards including Breakout Male-Taylor Lautner, Best Fantasy Actress-Kristen Stewart, Best Fantasy Actor-Robert Pattinson, and Best Fantasy Fantasy Movie-Twilight. Taylor Lautner picked up all the awards in person last year because other cast members were filming. Hopefully more will be able to make an appearance this year.

Here’s the rundown of what Twilight Saga Eclipse is up for this year. Technically New Moon also should have been eligible, but they seem to be focusing on Eclipse.

■ The Ultimate Scream: Twilight Saga Eclipse
■ Best Fantasy Movie: Twilight Saga Eclipse (tough competition with Toy Story 3)
■ Best Fantasy Actress: Kristen Stewart for Eclipse
■ Best Fantasy Actor: Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner for Eclipse (split vote is going to be a problem here!)
■ Breakout Performance Male: Xavier Samuel

Go over to Spike TV and vote.

Rami Malek Joins "Breaking Dawn"

Earlier this summer it was confirmed that the final installment of The Twilight Saga would be split into two films to .... have more time to tell the story of the conclusion of the series. It will cost Summit Entertainment a pretty penny to do so because the cast was only signed to four features – not that it matters considering how much Breaking Dawn will make from double-charging fans Harry Potter style.

At the Entertainment Tonight exclusive Emmy party on Sunday, ET correspondent Kate Gosselin was able to find out what new face will be joining the cast of Breaking Dawn. Rami Malek, who was on hand to celebrate The Pacific for which he starred in, will play an Egyptian vampire named Benjamin in part 2 of Breaking Dawn.

In the books, Benjamin is a cheerful character and friend of the Cullens. Better yet, he has the unique power of controlling the four elements and will easily become a fan-favorite character as he works with Bella to fight off the Volturi. Edward (Robert Pattinson) is especially fond of Benjamin as well due to is moral values, good nature, and sense of right and wrong.

The Egyptian coven, which includes Tia, Amun and Kebi, pay special attention to Benjamin because of his gifts and this is why Amun turned him in the first place, knowing his potential power.

Strangely enough, the LA-born Malek played the Egyptian pharaoh Ahkmenrah in Night at the Museum and its sequel, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.

Rami Malek as the Egyptian non-vampire Ahkmenrah

Malek is excited to play a character who has an important role in the latter half of Breaking Dawn and isn’t shy about sharing his feelings.

“I think it’s going to be great… It’s going to be super exciting and I’m thrilled”

I was a fan of David Slade’s work on Eclipse where he made it the only film of the series so far I found to be enjoyable. Let’s hope Bill Condon can make Breaking Dawn 1 & 2 work for moviegoers outside of the Twilight fanbase.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 will arrive in theaters November 18th, 2011 and Part 2 will follow on November 16th, 2012.
