Jimmy Kimmel's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" Special

Jimmy Kimmel Live: Twilight: Total Eclipse of the Heart was an hour-long, multi-colon special promoting the impending The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. I don’t know why Jimmy Kimmel was hosting it (Lost specials, yes; but Twilight movies and Jimmy?), but I’m glad he did. Who else would ask Robert Pattinson, “Robert, what happened to your dreamy, impossibly tousled hair?” I mean, besides the the most eloquent yet sarcastic Twilight fan ever?

The event took place in a theater in Hollywood packed with screaming Twilight fans. Rarely has an hour-long commercial for a movie been as much silly fun. The big three — Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner — the trio seemed to enjoy deflecting personal questions in favor of jokes and anecdotes. They spoke of performing karaoke in South Korea (Miley Cyrus songs were preferred choices), and answered Jimmy’s question about whether a vampire or a werewolf would fare better in a fight with a shark:

The stars were soon joined by many Eclipse co-stars, including Dakota Fanning, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Peter Facinelli. When it came time to take questions from fans, one civilian approached the microphone and asked whether any of them had “Justin Bieber fever.” The instant culture-clash provoked by that question was pleasantly, intriguingly absurd. When Kimmel said, “Yeah, [Bieber] should be in the next movie,” the crowd booed lustily. Kimmel hastily added, “Or, we could kill him,” the audience erupted in cheers:

......“This isn’t 60 Minutes, you know,” Kimmel said at one point. Exactly. Here’s a link to other clips from the special. It was an odd spectacle: Watching huge stars-of-the-moment shrugging off their fame casually, charmingly, while their fans expressed how seriously they, the fans, take that fame.
