Monday thoughts?

I've been reading New Moon again, trying to get the storyline fresh in my mind again before the movie comes out. I have to admit it- I'm loving this book more the second time around that I did the first. Mainly, because I know how this book will end, but there are a lot of things you don't catch the first time around either. It's funny how reading something the second time around gives you new insight as to what's going on in the story. Anyhoos, I had a question. As I came across the last paragraph on p. 288, I believe I came across a typo. How has no one else noticed it? Maybe I'm reading it incorrectly? It's small really, nothing big, but has anyone else ever noticed it. The sentences read, "He grinned at me suddenly. The grin was not mine, nor Sam's, but some strange combination of the two." It's referring to Jacob's smile- shouldn't it have said, "the grin was not his, nor Sam's..."? What am I missing, I have to be reading it wrong, right?!? Feel free to pick up your books and check it out. Let me know what your opinions are on this.

I truly understand your point. But the thing is: Bella’s thinking in a way that Jacob is hers. When he’s acting rightly (in the same way that before he became a werewolf) he’s hers. It’s her smile, her Jacob. So, that’s my point!

Yeah I agree...I think she means that it was not "her" Jacob's smile nor was it "Sam's" Jacob's smile. Bella often refers to Jacob as either "her" Jacob or the "other" Jacob.

I agree with katerine, Bella often refers to Jacobs grin when they are together as 'my smile'

Like Bella usualy refers to her favorite Edward's smile, she also has a smile she prefers on Jacob. That's why she refers to "my smile". The one that he uses when he's with her.
That's my point of view.
Love your blog!

Yep, the commenters above have it pinned down correctly. If you read Eclipse and Breaking Dawn again (which I have no doubt you will), this will continue throughout those books too.

I must admist how much more I enjoyed New Moon the second reading than the first time I read it. I hope you're enjoying as much, if not more!

Great blog, too! Thanks for keeping us Twi-hards in the loop!

I enjoyed the book the 2nd time around better also. I have read the other three books four times each and New Moon just twice. It is better knowing how it ends.

The first person was correct. Bella thinks of Jacob as hers. Before he became a werewolf and started hanging out with Sam, Jacob was different. To Bella, he changed and, until she discovered his secret, thought that he had somehow become a bad influence like Sam. He began to smile more "sinisterly", as I recall Bella saying or something along those lines. She preferred "her smile", or the smile that Jacob used before he transformed.

BTW, I thought that New Moon was a lot better the 2nd time I read it as well! :)

Completely agree with all that is said above! =D

As mentioned, I too, think that the books are better read once more; the reason for this may be because the reader is no longer confused. Once the outcome is known, all of the wierd dreams (mostly Bella's), perplexing conversations, and Jacob's "rude" attitude all make sense!
At least, this is how it was for me...

To be honest I found quite a few typos in all 4 of the books. I was surprised.

bella refers to the smile she loves the most. she calls it her smile because it shows how jacob was her little private sun when she was depressed and he wasn't a werewolf yet. so it's not a typo

Well when bella says that "the grin was not mine" she means that it was not her jacob's grin, and it wasn't the new jacob's grin (Sam's grin) it was a mix of the old and new jacob's way of smiling. So that wasn't a typo but i can see how you can get it confused.

I forgot to say that it is so true that the books are a lot better the 2nd time you read them! I have a good example: when Jacob's imprinting on Renesmee. When you read Breaking Dawn the second time, you can really see the signs.

i think it's supposed to read:...the grin was not mine, or Sam's, but some strange combination of the two.

I think you just have to be able to put yourself in the authors mind frame but yes, she is referring to "Bella's Jacob" and his smile that is all hers. I have to say, I have read the series too many times and still love it but New Moon was my least favorite. It was essential but so hard to read. I cry almost every time with Bella in the woods. She and Edward are classic...this is why we love them so!

I agree with the above, New moon was my least favourite book of the 4 but that might be to do with the fact that i'm a huge EDWARD fan. I do love the endinng to new moon it's awesome :D
Jacob finds himself torn by bella . he's 2 people bella's jacob and the wolf jacob.

It's such ashame how he only gets what he wants in the last book :( Bless
